The Student Lens: The Keh Interview

By: Coral Barnes
Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Student Lens. Today, I will be featuring the amazing Keh, who has been a consistent dancer and attendee and is now officially part of the Elemental Studios team. Like many of the students that attend Elemental Studios, Keh has shown his charisma, drive, passion, and love for trying new dance styles often.
He has shown that progress in dance can take as short or as long as you want it to be and that showing your unique style is important to the dance experience that you bring for yourself and your community. He inspires many people with his bubbly and playful personality and hope you guys are excited to get-to-know him with me!
Keh is an only child from a single mother. He has always been self-taught as a dancer but has had performing experience performing in front of large crowds and has done consistent dance training for what will be 10 months coming up this April!

Here is my Interview with him!

What made you fall in love with dance?

Keh: “I grew up, and since I was little was always watching dance, ALL the step up movies, Stomp the yard, Honey, Bring it on… always watched Chris Brown and would be watching music videos with my cousins and learning the choreo then bringing the adults in to watch us perform for it for them lol. Always lit something up inside me!”

What is a fun fact about yourself that you would love for us to know?

Keh: “A fun fact about me… I do love to draw and freehand sketch! Would always hand-make cards instead of buying them when I was little, spending HOURS making cards for family that wanted them and just LOVE being creative (everyone had always kept the drawings/handmade cards).”

What made you fall in love with Elemental Studios?

Keh: “What made me fall in love with elemental was the FULL hearted support, energy, encouragement, selflessness, and love from my VERY first class I took and seeing how Cici and Serina started from literally the ground up to what elemental was, is, and will be will forever low my mind!”

What is your favorite class right now?

Keh: “Mmm, tough one… my favorite class right now would be Cici’s Hip-hop/R&B, haven’t missed a Thursday at all.”

Who is a dancer that inspired you to dance?

Keh: “A dancer who inspired me to dance…aside from myself, I’d say Matt Steffanina (watching his choreo videos) would watch his She Twerk choreo and try to learn it so much lol.”

What do you look forward to the most when coming to Elemental Studios each week?

Keh: “Each week I look forward to growing..and being in a BEYOND amazing environment that pushes me and encourages me to do so.. summing it up, the raw, uplifting energy and positivity every time I walk through those doors!”

What advice do you have for new dancers attending Elemental Studios for the first time?

Keh: “As for any advice for new dancers coming into Elemental for the first time, I would say don’t let anyone stop you, especially yourself! Go for it because this is the space to do so and do so freely! You want to take that class?, Go for it! If you’re scared, that’s totally fine because there’s SO much comfort within these doors! Whether that’s starting a beginner class to build up or (like me) throwing yourself into that first open level class, you’re free to go at your own pace AND revisit the fundamentals! Don’t pressure yourself; just have fun!”
Thank you to Keh for taking the time to interview with me, I had such a fun time getting to know you and interviewing you, I hope you guys loved learning about him with me and make sure to say hi to him at the studio each week you see him!
